Professional:
I graduated from Bryan High school in 1974 and attended Southern Nazarene University.  I received a B.A. in Political Science in 1978. In 1995 I received a masters in Educational Administration from Texas A&M.  I have been in public education for 30 years.  17 of those years were spent at the campus level teaching social studies.  The past 13 years I have been an administrator in charge of technology (Director of Instructional Technology then moved into the Chief Technology role).

In 1995, the Instructional Technology department consisted of two trainers and a part-time secretary with the primary responsibility of training teachers on how to integrate technology into their teaching. Today, the Technology Services staff has 45 technology professionals whose responsibility it is to support and maintain a high-tech infrastructure supporting over 15,000 users to ensure that technology is used to support the instrucational goals of the district. The department's primary mission to figure out how best to serve the district’s learning community.

The district has received over 8.6 million dollars in grants. These grants have enabled the district to pursue the skills and technology necessary to prepare our students for the 21stCentury.  The district was recently honored in Washington D.C. for their technology efforts by the Consortium for Schools Networking organization. CoSN presented Bryan ISD with their TEAM award which is presented annually to a district that has significantly employed technology to transform learning.

Advocacy for Technology:
I have been able to combine two passions by advocating for the use of technology to improve our schools at the local, state, and national level.  I have been to Washington D.C. to visit with congressmen about educational technology issues and have shared the district's success of our 1:1 program at a briefing on Capital Hill.  I have also testified before the state legislature regarding educational technology funding. I have taken other opportunities to present a vision for how educational content can be delivered digitally at the Austin Congress on Content in the fall of 2007 and at the American Association of Publishers Digital conference in the fall of 2008. The Texas Computer Education Association has allowed me to serve as their Advocacy Chair.  We are working to broaden our grass-roots efforts to benefit the children of Texas by preparing them for the 21st Century.

Personal
I have a wonderful husband who is a teacher at Sul Ross Elementary.  He teaches Physical Education.  I have three great kids but only one is still in Bryan schools.  When I'm not working I am involved in my church either working with teens or leading a Bible study.  I am also a political junkie and love to read the latest news from some of my favorite bloggers.
