image001.gifLIBRARY INFORMATION

Our library is open to students and parents from 8:40 a.m. until 3:20 p.m. each day.  Students have scheduled library classes every other week.  Library lessons support the curriculum and also provide exposure to quality literature.  Additionally, students learn to use the automated catalog, practice Internet skills, and obtain information from on-line encyclopedias.  Students have daily access to the library to check out books and to do research.

The Johnson Library collection is quite extensive, with over 14,000 books.  Our Accelerated Reader (A.R.) collection continues to grow.  We now have over 6,000 A.R. tests, in both English and Spanish. Our circulation has increased tremendously since our Reading Renaissance program was started.  11,853 books were checked out in 1995-96, before we started our Accelerated Reader program.  Last year, our circulation was
61,071!   Wow!  Reading is BIG at Johnson.

Students in grades 2-5 may check out 4 books at a time.  First graders may have 3 books, and kindergartners may have 1 book.  Books may be kept for 2 weeks and may be renewed.  Please help your child choose a special place at home to keep his or her library books.

image001.gifThe Johnson Birthday Book Club

Our Birthday Book Club is a great way to add books to our collection and to honor your child at the same time.  Your child's name and birth date appear on a plate at the front of the book.  During your child's birthday month, the book is on display. Then he/she is the first person to check out the new book.  For children with summer birthdays, we usually celebrate on the child's "half birthday."  All Birthday Books cost $10.  Please contact Ms. Moore at 209-1456  to make an appointment to select your child's Birthday Book.

image001.gifParents and the Johnson Library

Parents are always welcome in our library.  They may check out books and other materials.  Additionally, we have a parenting section with free informative brochures on such pertinent topics as "Help Your Child Make Responsible Decisions" and "Secrets for Making Children Want to Read."

World Book Online is available to Johnson students at school and at home.   Information is available in English and Spanish.  Just click on the above link, and you're good to go!

AR QuizList Interactive contains all of the AR tests available to Johnson students.  You can search by title, subject, author, level, and number of points.  Click on the link, and you can find every test we have in your reading range!
