Our library is open to students and parents from 12:45 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. each day.  Students have scheduled library classes every other week. (All library classes are in the morning.)   Library lessons support the curriculum and also provide exposure to quality literature.  Additionally, students learn to use the automated catalog, practice Internet skills, and obtain information from online encyclopedias.  Students have daily access to the library to check out books and to do research.

The Johnson Library collection is quite extensive, with over 15,000 books.  Our Accelerated Reader (A.R.) collection continues to grow.  We have a new program this year, which you'll hear more about later.  (LOOK FOR A LINK TO THE SITE - COMING SOON!)  With this program, our students will have access to every A.R. test!  This will give them a much wider variety of books on which they may test.  Our circulation has increased tremendously since our Reading Renaissance program was started.  11,853 books were checked out in 1995-96, before we started our Accelerated Reader program.  Last year, our circulation was over 50,000!  Wow!  Reading is BIG at Johnson.

Students in grades 2-5 may check out 4 books at a time.  First graders may have 2 books, and kindergartners may have 1 book.  Books may be kept for 2 weeks and may be renewed.  Please help your child choose a special place at home to keep his or her library books.
